The Launch

I’ve been thinking about the May 1 launch for months. So much has been building up to one day – the prototype, the photos, the videos, the narrative – at every step of the process I had one goal in mind: make it to 5/1.

At the very end of March, after just over a year of working with a local engineering company, the prototype was finally ready for photos and demonstration purposes. However, the crowdfunding campaign creation process had begun long before I first set eyes on the green and blue Guac Box seen in the photos and videos.

The process really started last year when I upgraded my computer so that I could learn the Adobe Creative Cloud suite. Then it continued when I took a photography course at the local high school to maximize the utility of the camera that had sat dormant since my semester abroad in college. Throughout the entire process, a lot of Googling happened – and I mean a lot. I’m very grateful for all the people creating videos about simple software tutorials, tricks, and troubleshooting.

Once I had the skills to craft it, the story could flow smoothly. One of my favorite YouTubers constantly reiterates that above all else, the story always has to come first. I agree with this rule, and I’d add is that the story is a lot easier to tell when the right tools are available.

Do I wish I had far better skills at every aspect of the creation process? Yes. Do I wish I had infinite time to craft the perfect story complemented by amazing content? Yes. But, do I wish I had waited to launch? No.

I’m proud of the campaign materials that I was able to pull together and I couldn’t be happier to have launched on my original goal date of May 1. As scary as it was to click that button on Tuesday morning, I’m really glad that I did.

This is just the beginning, though. Guac Box and the story behind it are out there. Now the goal is getting the maximum amount of people to see it - and for the people who really love it to share with others.

The long road ahead continues, but I’m glad to be on it. Thanks for joining me.
